About Sahar

Persian-British-Kiwi creative director turned documentary filmmaker. My career journey has been anything but conventional, and I’ve come to quite like it that way.

From international development in South Africa, to law school in Scotland, to building a career in media, technology, and creative across New Zealand and the UK. I’ve now moved from London to New York to do my postgraduate in documentary filmmaking at Columbia University, where I’m honing my documentary storytelling chops with the goal of telling more of the stories closest to my heart.

Through all those twists and turns, one thing has remained constant: a deep desire to make a positive impact in the world, and the belief in the power of storytelling to help do that.

Over the past 15+ years, I’ve led creative campaigns across EMEA, APAC, and US markets for large global brands like Google, YouTube, Vodafone, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, and Burger King, as well as grassroots charities, NGOs, and social enterprises. Along the way, I’ve built and nurtured diverse teams of creative thinkers and doers, always championing the unicorns and misfits: those who don’t fit neatly into one box, think a bit differently, and stay true to their values and voice.

Having grown up in a family of scientists, I'm naturally a bit of a science nerd and endlessly curious about how people think, feel, and behave. My work often lives at the intersection of science (particularly social and environmental) and storytelling: blending ethnographic depth with creative form, and journalistic rigour. I love immersing myself in new environments and deepening my understanding of different people, cultures, and societies. So it’s no surprise I’ve lived in eight cities and six countries, across four continents…and counting.

I'm a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, AI ethics, and making journalism (and the world) more diverse, fair, and inclusive. Above all, I want to use my voice to amplify underrepresented perspectives and open up critical conversations.

Outside of work, I’m an explorer and adventurer (currently training for my first trail ultra), mental health advocate, and humanitarian.
